SEMANA 1:
Taco Count - 2
WELL....here it is! My first week in MEXICO!!!
I have so much that I want to share... yet can't remember anything at the same time.
I will start with all the basics:)So my companion is awesome. She is Native!!
She is from Mexico City, which means... no English. Normally you have a
trainer for 12 weeks, but not me:) haha. She is done with her mission in just 5 weeks.
I am her very last companion! After that I will get a second trainer.
So I have my mom... and my step mom. Different. but good:) She is awesome though!
We get along great :)
MY AREA!!!
I am in Mazatlan!! Wahoooo!!!
It´s gorgeous:) and... very... well... Mexicany! Obviously.
Yes, the humidity and the heat is ridiculous.
We carry around little towels constantly to wipe all the sweat off!
I am getting eaten alive by the bugs!!!! I was doing really well at
keeping them away and not getting any bites... AND THEN... one
night after an activity at the church, we asked some members for
a ride back to our house.
They just had a little truck so my comp
sat in the front and I took the tailgate. They had a little bench thing,
but all the kids were seating there. I told them I would just
take the carseat that was in the back corner of the truck bed. The sun had already
set so I couldn´t see anything... I sat down. Instantly I felt
all these spiders running all over me!!! They just kept coming!!
I sat there holding my arms out just cringing. I didn't even do
anything...I totally froze! I could feel them crawling up in my hair and
into my clothes... biting everywhere they went. I guess I sat
in a nest or something? Needless to say... I basically shower
in anti-itch cream.
The food is killer!! no surprise there... It´s actually pretty funny,
everyone warned me that the food would make me sick the first little
while that I was here, just until I adjusted. Well, we had to go to
the hospital on Saturday because something we ate had made my
COMPANION way sick! The Mexican! I was totally fine:)
We just laughed about it because we thought it was so backwards.
Even when the doctor walked in she came up to me first... then we
had to explain that it wasn't me that was having the problems.
She was shocked too!I am always the first to finish my food...Everyone
just laughs at me and points out that I have an american appetite.
Little do they know... That's super rare for me.
But the food is just so GOOD!!
THE WORK
There wasn't a second that was wasted. The night that I got here we
had 5 lessons. We had a baptism on Saturday and have another on Thursday!
The first thing President said to me was "This is a working mission, be ready."
He wasn't kidding! I have had to learn things super fast. Especially
since my comp will be leaving and once she is gone I will have
to explain everything to my new comp.
This area is so confusing!! My head hurts because I get so turned
around sometimes. However, everyone in the ward is awesome:)
Super friendly and all eager to help the missionaries! We have 4 sisters in
the Ward. Me from the U.S. my comp from Mexico, one of the other
sisters from Mexico and the other from Uruguay:)
I teach an English class on Fridays! I seriously get so happy when
Mexicans speak English... I don´t know why exactly... I just find it amusing:)
When my companion speaks English it totally throws me off!!
The super basic words and structures she doesn't really understand...
But she knows the most random words and phrases!! She will turn to me and say something... and I just LOSE it!!!! It is so funny!!
Yesterday we were visiting a family and the daughter came downstairs
and was covered in paint. I didn't really understand the conversation that
happened next but next thing I know we are painting this families house!!
Super fun:)
I have always loved painting because it is so relaxing, I´m sure you can
imagine how enjoyable it is on the mission:)
Sometimes I still can't believe that I am here! There have been a few
moments where I just stop. Look around. Hear the BLARING Mexican music.
Smell the Tacos. Look down at my plaque with the name Jesus Christ.
It's really real.
The church is true.
The book is blue.
Con AMOR,
Hermana Robinson
